Getting Started

Dear Students,

I’m Cyp Roy and I manage the social media for the Newseum Institute. I’ll be serving as your technical support for this online portal. My office hours are Monday through Thursday, 1 pm to 4 pm Eastern, September 1st – 30th, 2016. The best way to reach me is via email, or call me at 1+ 202/292-6339.

Listed below are the first steps you can take to log into the course portals at You should have received a registration confirmation via email from my colleague Sabrina E. Dent in admissions, which includes your username and password. Please let me know if you have any problems with logging in.

Once you are in Haiku, please take the following steps:

  1. In the “My Information” tab, please add your name that you want your fellow students to call you in the “Nickname” field.
  2. Please add the phone number in the “Phone” field that you want your fellow students to use to contact you, if needed.
  3. Please add your Mobile Phone number and follow the steps for receiving text messages, which will be helpful during our onsite conference in Washington, DC. (You can set your notification preferences later.)
  4. Please upload a clear headshot in the Profile Picture field.
  5. In the “About Me” section, please copy-paste the answer that you provided in your application to the question, “What is the nature of your religious or civic leadership? Who or what is the primary focus for your leadership, and in what settings do you lead? (300 words maximum)” Feel free to amend this bio as you see fit.
  6. Please make sure your Time Zone reflects your primary location.

My Notifications

  1. In the “My Notifications” tab, select how you want to receive your course information.
  2. We recommend using “Instant Email” for all notifications.
  3. Please make sure the “Instant SMS” box is selected for “A new Class Announcement.”
