The Religious Freedom Center (RFC) of the Freedom Forum Institute is very proud to announce the appointment of two Senior Scholars for Religious Freedom: Richard Foltin and Asma Uddin. Foltin and Uddin will bring their wealth of experience and expertise to the Center. Foltin served as director of national and legislative affairs in the American Jewish Committee’s (AJC) Office of Government and International Affairs in Washington, D.C. from March 2009-February 2018. In that role, he was responsible for a broad range of AJC policy and legislative activities. Uddin previously served as director of strategy for the Center for Islam and Religious Freedom, a nonprofit engaged in religious liberty in Muslim-majority and Muslim-minority contexts and as counsel with Becket, a nonprofit law firm specializing in U.S. and international religious freedom cases. As Senior Scholars, Foltin and Uddin will write articles and blogs on current religious freedom issues and will work with the social and news media teams to further the conversation about the intersection of religion and public life. We are living in complicated times, where polarization is the norm. Therefore, we are grateful that Richard and Asma will provide a much needed moderate voice in a highly polarized context. They will help the RFC fulfill its mission to educate the public about the history, meaning and significance of religious freedom and to promote dialogue and understanding among people of all religions and none.
